MonumentValley
Monument Valley—the classic, red-dirt backdrop of countless Western movies—is a landscape dominated by massive, isolated stone monoliths. Over millions of years, water, wind, and ice slowly chipped away at the layers of the Colorado Plateau, wearing down the earth and leaving only the hardest sandstone buttes and spires standing. Today, these giant red towers rise hundreds of feet out of the flat desert floor. Driving the valley's dirt loop road takes you right up to the base of these famous formations, where the sheer scale of the rock layers is truly humbling.
