Petrified Forest
Petrified Forest is a mesmerizing geological treasure in northeastern Arizona, globally renowned for its vast concentration of mineralized, Triassic-era wood. Dating back 225 million years, giant fallen conifers were buried by sediment and volcanic ash, allowing dissolved silica to slowly replace the organic matter with brilliant quartz, jasper, and amethyst crystals. Today, these ancient stone logs weather out of the vibrant, eroded badlands of the Painted Desert, showcasing an incredible prehistoric landscape.
